“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter – a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” – Henri Matisse

BEFORE – 1970’s Couch and Chairs

This wacky couch and pair of chairs was so bad, it was good.  Attracted by its over sized shape and ridiculous comfort, I bought it right away knowing it would be perfect for someone once it received a much needed makeover.  Little did I know that someone would be me.  Desperate for more seating as my kids aren’t so little anymore, I wanted to create a comfy environment with clean lines as this would be the anchor of our living room and a place for us all to gather for movie night, Rose’s gymnastic performances,  a school presentation by Jack, or a gallery showing of Mia’s artwork.  My brain started churning and I called in my long time upholsterer to see if he could turn my idea into fruition.  The result was even better than I had imagined…  read more

FROM WHOA TO WOW! 150 150 admin

There comes a great satisfaction  when  finding a way to re purpose a well made item.  When I see a great piece, I snatch it up knowing I will find the right home for it once it has been reinvented.  Although this chair would fit in perfectly at Medieval Times Restaurant, it was in serious need of a face lift.

The frame was strong and had beautiful carved detail.  However, the worn out gilding and green velvet straight from a 60’s living room needed to go.  A fresh coat of grey paint and Schumaker’s Chiang Mai Dragon, (one of my  all time favorite fabrics) turned this arm chair into a modern beauty.  Replaced the antiqued brass nail heads with fresh silver ones and Voila!  A star is born.  To finish the space, a tufted garden stool becomes the perfect side table and I threw in an orange hide for a rug to add an unexpected pop of color.

I have yet to meet a piece of furniture that I couldn’t give new life to. Can’t wait to share with you what we’re currently working on…
