Remember that room in your house growing up that was “off limits” or “for company only?”  This laid back family wanted anything but that.  With a comfy family room already set up for Movie Night and Sports Games, the lady of the house wanted a room where she could entertain her friends without feeling stuffy.  With nothing but a console in this room, we couldn’t wait to start hunting for and creating its contents.  A sofa and chairs were created in Belgian Linen, custom pewter silk drapes hang from a modern valance.  Clean lined yet eclectic, the perfect room was becoming perfectly layered.  read more

What do you do when a Girly Girl Aesthetician and Masculine Agent decide to coexist and  their taste is completely different?!  Make it mellow and meet half way.  The existing bedroom was just a shell with light wood floors and exposed rafters.  It made a large room look small, which is great if you are looking to cozy up in a cottage, not for a  master suite to live in daily!  read more

The inspiration for our July window was spawned from a vintage oil painting I found that was very reminiscent of Van Gough.  “I am so tired of doing red, white and blue for July every year.  It’s so predictable! I’m inspired by this painting.” said my merchandiser Jess. We both agreed that it reminded us of Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, and thus an un-traditional summer window was born.

Lighting is key to setting the mood in a room.  Form and function are equally important and the right light can make all the difference.  Ancient cultures used rods of amber which they rubbed on cat hair to create illumination.  It wasn’t until 1870 that the first incandescent  light bulb was invented!  We haven’t lived with modern electricity for very long when you think about it.  I love the way we can control light at the touch of a switch.

We are always on the hunt for vintage items we can re-purpose and re-invent.  I flipped when I stumbled across these brass beauties.  The sizes were perfect and the shapes interesting.  I knew with a little love and creativity, we could transform these into something amazing.   The lamps were re-wired, (very important with vintage and antique lamps) and we got to work.
