Rose Desk Before

Nothing thrills me like having to find a solution to an unconventional or small space.  So when a little girl (with the initials R.G. :)… ) who is entering her tweens begged her Mom (me!) for a “grown up desk,”  the hunt began for the perfect piece.  It needed to allow for enough room for all of her crafting, as well as a place to study and keep her lap top.  After transforming the room to a soothing blue and white oasis, the desk was the last missing piece.

Fab revamped vintage desk in white lacquer with #CB2 lucite chair | #DLRhein

Love me some lacquer!  It elevates furniture to another level and works with any style from preppy to eclectic.  By choosing to make it white, it blends effortlessly into the room as opposed to obstructing it. To finish this modern desk, sleek lucite knobs replace brass hardware.  The chair is one of my favorite go to’s from Ikea for an affordable lucite choice that is as chic as it is comfortable.  To add a touch of whimsy, we created a custom piece of artwork by covering an oversized canvas with vintage wallpaper and hand painting a floral bouquet.  Simple, clean, fresh…this desk is waiting to be covered in projects!

BEFORE | 1960’s Dining Set

Yellow and Velvet and Dust, Oh My!  This set was needing some serious TLC and I knew it would be a stunner if we lacquered and reupholstered it for a modern home.

AFTER | Revamped 60’s Dining set

When in doubt, go black!  Timeless, sleek and neutral.  Belgian linen with a skinny piping makes these chairs tailored without feeling overly formal.  A mirrored tray topped with fresh orchids is all you need to dress up this mod setting.  A white hide rug anchors the table and ties together the warmth of the ivory linen upholstery.  Simple change, big impact.

“My many years of living have not made the actions of teenage boys any less enigmatic.” – Avery Williams, The Alchemy of Forever

A Boys Room with a Big Makeover | @D.L. Rhein

Remember the fabulous Bollywood Bungalow we did last year? Our clients recently moved into a larger home and wanted to give their teenage sons fresh, updated bedrooms that said goodbye little boys, hello young men.  The rooms had nothing in them but walls and windows when we began working in the space. A highly creative family, with ideas and projects constantly flowing, we wanted to create soothing bedrooms that were relaxing and kept these young collectors items orderly.

Monogram Pillows always add a nice touch | @D.L. Rhein

A new bed fit for a king!  Navy fabric gets tailored definition with a modern design and silver nail heads.   Black and white linen duvet and shams embroidered with his initials from Monogrammit, an LA staple for personalized linens and accessories.  A royal blue silk shade is the perfect accent for these lucite lamps.

A boys bedroom with a little extra storage | @D.L. Rhein

One challenge in this room was that there was no closet!  A custom built bench is covered with a stenciled zebra hide, stained in a mahogany, and modern pulls from Restoration Hardware.  The furniture anchors the room and functions as a place for him to store some of his clothes.  A Greek key rug adds some texture and pops the blues in the bed and lamp shades.

To give the boys rooms that reflect their individual styles and personalities, we went with a grey and brown pallet for the older brother.  Vintage bamboo side tables make eclectic and one of a kind end tables.  A cable knit throw brings out the dark grey headboard as it accents the light grey embroidered bedding.  A faux croc tray painted in high gloss lacquer allows for an impromptu breakfast in bed.

There is nothing new paint and hardware can’t make magnificent!  Lacquered in grey, and chrome plated original brass hardware, this vintage piece is given new life and turned modern with a lucite chair from CB2.  It is one of our favorite, inexpensive pieces to place.  (They make great dining chairs too. )  The patchwork hide rug blends the scheme of the room together effortlessly.  Stay tuned for the guest room in this newly appointed home.
