BEFORE | ENCINO LIVING ROOM

This house definitely had some good bones when our clients moved in.  It had been modernized, but many of the rooms needed all of the furnishings to do the same.  Keeping the fab Akimbo pattern from Walnut Wallpaper on the center wall and a new custom built in console, we went to work on transforming  the rest of this groovy family room.   read more

“As I grew steadily more comfortable in the kitchen, I found that, much like gardening, most cooking manages to be agreeably absorbing without being too demanding intellectually.  It leaves plenty of mental space for daydreaming and reflection.”
– Michael Pollan

BEFORE | ENCINO KITCHEN

With a love for entertaining and hosting fabulous dinner parties, we couldn’t wait to dive into the kitchen, and give it a lighter feel, flowing from the adjacent dining room.  The cabinetry was fairly new, but felt heavy in the space.  The power of color can transform anything…  read more

“I need contrast—the old and the new, the rough and the soft. The clash of it all is very sexy.”

Oooooooh, the dinner parties that will take place in this room!  This space was such fun to design, with our clients’ impeccable taste and a touch of whimsy, a melding of the minds occurred.  A place created for conversation and laughter, this dining room effortlessly mixes old and new.  We were stoked when we found Black Creek Mercantile in New York to create this gorgeous black table.  Using only domestically sourced, sustainable hardwoods, each item is handcrafted in their studio using wood to wood joints.  Available in custom sizes and your choice of non-toxic natural colors, we love working with them to create the perfect pieces for our clients.   read more

We’re baaaack!  This spring our cup runneth over with exciting new client projects, and the expansion and complete remodel of our store and studio, as well as our new annex!  We have continued to hunt and gather for one of a kind pieces of interest to bring to our clients and retail customers.  This post is the first look inside a home that we furnished and curated with curios in every corner.  We found an antique French console that was exactly what we were looking for! Unfortunately it was not the right size, so our client had one made in reclaimed wood to replace the original find and it worked out perfectly.  It warms up a bright and crisp entry, and is the perfect balance to mix old and new.  A bold patterned runner adds contrast to beautifully stained wood floors.  Black and white abstract art makes a big impact while not overwhelming the space.

Vintage ceramics and a polished horn vase are a welcomed change for fresh flora.  Grouped together and filled with wildflowers, this moment is a work of art in itself.

How many times do you lose your keys in a day?!  You don’t want me to answer that question.   A carved marble bowl fills our never ending desire to marry form and function as a catchall that remains eye catching.  (See what we did there?) Our clients outrageous collection of vintage canes is museum worthy and begged to be on display.

All angles have to be considered when designing a space.  Even from the living room, the black and white art adds a symbiotic dimension to the view from the parlor.  A vintage cherry wood cabinet gets a sleek make over when lacquered in black.  A surrealist painting and wooden stag busts from one of our hunts are intriguing and beguiling.

The baby grand takes center stage, especially when our clients have parties and friends who are also musicians take their hands to the keys.  A hand knotted Moroccan sheepskin rug softens the room.

Mid century chairs pair well with a tufted velvet sofa plumped up with African embroidered textiles turned into pillows.  A lucite and chrome bar cart make cocktail time easy breezy.

Black clouds don’t have to be gloomy.  We commissioned this hand painted piece to set the mood against grey walls in one of our favorite Benjamin Moore colors, Cheating Heart.  This fabulous brass edged coffee table is modernized with quadpod bases.   A room made for libations and conversations, nothing makes me happier than a home filled with eclectic and curated style.  Stay tuned for the rest of this Curious Valley Hideaway.

XO,
D.L.

BEFORE | BEACH HOUSE MASTER BEDROOM

Every space within this dream house calls for people to get cozy and relax.  A weekend retreat for family and friends, with a newly remodeled vibe of calm and serene that swept into the bedrooms.  With an empty shell, the possibilities were endless when we began to draw up the master quarters.

After a day in the sun and sand, a restful night of sleep is heavenly.  Muted and natural, a clutter free room is ideal for the sweetest dreams.  A new door replaced shutters and slats, on to a deck overlooking the courtyard in the front of the house.  We said goodbye to a small closet on the opposite side of the room, and designed built-in his and hers storage to flank the door without encroaching on the open space of the room.

You can’t get cozier than our Mongolian Sheep Throw.  The softest thing you’ve ever felt, and it adds dimension and texture to crisp white bedding.  That headboard tho!  A vintage hand embroidered blanket from one of our favorite LA based textile designers, Peter Dunham, became the perfect backdrop for the room.  A custom built bed is one of our favorite things to design as it gives each client a one of a kind beauty, and guarantees a plush factor that is a must! With a bold pattern, it becomes the artwork of the room.

Concrete and brass lamps blend effortlessly with these leather nightstands.  Our best selling bone tray is just right to hold a bedside decanter of water and fresh cut flowers.

Here is the tiny closet original to the room which was replaced with the new built-storage for the Mr. and Mrs.  The walls were filled in and made the room appear much larger with the new elongated wall.

Petrified Wood is one of my favorite materials for design.  This narrow console is the perfect fit under a new flat screen, and a place for some of our favorite vintage treasures and finds.  The feather headress from Bali is ready for an impromptu dance session.

It is impossible to not be overwhelmed with joy with a view like that.  Morning glory and evening delight ensue when letting the crashing waves of the Pacific wake you up, and lull you to sleep.

Our rattan lounger is waiting for someone to curl up with a good read, or to marvel at the insane ombre of the ocean in Malibu. Some things cannot be replicated, and that palatte is truly a wonder of nature.  Stay tuned for the next chapter of our Beach House Remodel…
