“The living room should be a place where we feel totally at ease – temple of the soul.” – Terence Conran

Sometimes you meet someone and you just connect right away.  It can be their persona, style, or a mutual appreciation of something.  This was the case when I first met my client who I now call  friend.  With her impeccable eye for detail and my vintage furniture refurbs, this room was a stunning and symbiotic collaboration.  Reminiscent of my old house when my kids were babies, filled with neutrals and a pop of red,  I couldn’t wait to see this room unfold into a place both modern and chic.

Can we say “Hello, Gorgeous?!” The fabulous Mrs. of the House made a bold color choice to instantly transform the room.  Inspired by Restoration Hardware’s Flint Paint Collection, she had a custom color created on site that wavers between shades of grey and blue depending on how and where the light hits.  The rafters now in crisp white create a contrast that furthers the illusion of cathedral ceilings.  With her beautiful art in place on the walls, it was time to layer the space with furniture fitting to it’s new glam environment.

You know I’m koo-koo for caning, but this time I needed to let these beauties evolve into something more sumptuous for this sexy formal living room as it will be a place for entertaining guests as it opens up to a stunning pool and yard.

OOPA!  These tufted chairs are as comfy as they are chic, evocative  of a vogue Parisian hotel.  I can imagine the conversations these will hold, as I wax nostalgic on the buying trip to France Jess and I took a few years ago where we discovered the hand inked Snake Art hanging on the wall from the most magical vintage art dealers down a hidden alleyway.

Another fine example of chairs we purchased for size and shape knowing they would boogie out of the seventies and shimmy into the millennium.

This seating area was inspired by one of our favorite design mavens Kelly Wearstler. Away with the funky chairs, in with these glam new swivels upholstered in Agate Slate  on a custom brass base.  A grey hide adds texture and warmth to the wood floors as well as showing off  the scalloped Shagreen table.  A yellow mineral specimen from her collection of curios is just the right touch of color.

Loving the twinned couches she chose from Plantation ,  a modern version of the classic Chesterfield.  Embroidered Linen and Mongolian lamb pillows plump up the couch and lighten the stormy velvet.

She had loved a vintage smaller version of this bench I had at my studio but wanted something larger to create additonal seating and some serious drama.  My trusty lucite man replicated the vintage stool and we upholstered in New Zealand sheepskin.  Voila!  Instant Hollywood glamour.

The final element to this dreamy room are these custom cabinets.  After searching high and low for similar pieces, we decided to go the custom route which made them completely original and unique.  Thanks to our guys at Liz’s Antique Hardware for having the perfect accoutrements, I know you thought we were crazy, but look how it all worked out! Thank you to my fab client and friend for a wonderful collaboration and for being my new fashion style maven.  I’m still coveting that fringed suede bag 😉
