“My kids always perceived the bathroom as a place where you wait it out until all the groceries are unloaded from the car.” – Erma Bombeck

When we moved into our current home, we needed to do some major renovating.  That being said, because my kids were little, I was scrappy with my resourcing and did what I could to update the space economically and put the money into their bedrooms instead.  Funny how our tastes change every decade or so, this wallpaper created with actual leaves used to be one of my favorites.  My little boy is now a young man.  Hard to believe my husband and I just took him to tour a number of colleges.  The timing was perfect to remodel his bathroom, which as I choke back a tear, will be a guest bath as of next year.  You’ve come a long way baby…

Everything you are looking at is modern affordability at its best.  One of our old standbys, the Seal Harbor vanity from Martha Stewart for Home Depot is turned custom with the whisk of a paint brush.  Fluffy new towels with grey embroidered stripes match all 50 shades of grey thanks to Target.  Form and function is critical in a small space.  This recessed chrome medicine cabinet from Pottery Barn provides much needed storage.  The biggest steal of all was this industrial metal and glass tower from Ikea.

A forged metal octopus wraps himself on the edge of shelf in front of my favorite bath accessory, fresh white orchids and a candle from Lafco.

What a difference new tile can make! Out with the original seventies squares, in with the subway tile with charcoal grout to add contrast.  New shower fixturing courtesy of Ferguson of course.

Recessed #Marble shelf | #dlrhein

A recessed shelf was created out of remnant marble from the floor of this new shower.  Talk about getting your money’s worth!

The right hardware can totally make a piece of furniture, transform cabinetry or make a bathroom look like a four star hotel.  These chrome handles add a strong architectural feature and are built to stand the test of time.  When your kids have out grown bath time, a grown up shower is well received and a practical decision for the future.  Besides, by the time they come home with their own kids one day, you’ll be happy to lend them your tub.
