“People are either born hosts or born guests.” -Max Beerbohm

A small guest room gets a simple but big makeover | @D.L. Rhein

Our client was born a host, but with her many travels around the world as a writer, she knows how she wants to feel when she is staying in and out of hotels.  Remember the Bollywood Bungalo we decorated last year?  These clients moved into a new home and needed a guest room ASAP as they would be having company in and out from Thanksgiving to Christmas.  A small space with no storage or closet space, we had to get creative while keeping the integrity of a beautiful room.  We designed a custom upholstered day bed with finial posts and a hidden trundle.  Perfect for a quiet place to relax, even better for two guests to slumber upon.

An antique sari turned lumbar pillow adds texture and breaks up the pure white bedding.  Slender side tables I found on a hunt fit effortlessly in this narrow space between the day bed and the walls.  A soothing toile from Ralph Lauren covers the back wall eliminating the need for art and making the bed the focus of the room.  A navy cow hide cozies up the berber carpet and ups the wow factor.

Take an old dresser and give it a facelift. The results will make you want more | @D.L. Rhein

Pink is the new Black #makeover | @D.L. Rhein

Oh what a bold color can do!  This piece is fit for a queen and breathes new life into the room after some TLC.  Lacquered in a custom shade of  raspberry with newly plated brass on the original hardware that was so fab we had to keep it!  This also serves as storage for a guest as there is no closet in this room and makes a mighty fine stand for a TV.

Adding a mirror to any room in the house creates big change | @D.L. Rhein

A vintage Venetian glass mirror glams up the room over an antique gilded stool from France that we recovered in silk fuschia velvet and matches the cozy cashmere throw.  I love the contrast of pink against the navy hide rug.  When your guests are happy, everyone is happy!  Holidays can be stressful enough, wouldn’t you love to stay in this newly appointed suite after a long day of travel?  Happy Holidays!
