“She specifically didn’t want a separate dining room, so we made sure we incorporated it nicely, as part of the room, but set apart.” – Jennifer Owens

BEFORE | El Royale Entryway

The first thing we see in our homes is the entry way.  No matter how small, I want people to feel excited when they open the door and look at something beautiful instead of bare walls.  After a soothing makeover of her master bedroom, we started transforming the rest of the apartment.   Located in the El Royale, this historic landmark has been home to some amazing tenants including Clark Gable, William Faulkner and Judy Holiday.  From the architecture, to its stunning views of the Hollywood Hills, this building holds a century of secrets.

AFTER | El Royale Entryway #dlrhein

With stunning molding details from the 1920’s, this entry is framed like a picture.  Because it is visible from the living room and the segue to the kitchen, we wanted to create a space that was appealing from every angle.  This console was boring in brown, but electrifying when lacquered in peacock blue!  Just the right size to fit perfectly between molding details.  A pair of vintage celadon vases flank a marble bowl filled with hydrangeas.  A brass rimmed mirror hung with an equestrian bridle adds a modern touch.

BEFORE | Stripped dresser waiting to be lacquered as a buffet #dlrhein

The dining room was the next space ready for some pops of color.  We scored this vintage dresser and removed the dated hardware and stripped it bare to prepare it for a squeaky clean dip in black lacquer.

El Royale Dining Room Makeover #dlrhein

The dresser turned buffet doubles as a bar and provides much needed storage for linens and serving pieces.  New knobs and pulls from our fave, Liz’s Antique Hardware, elevates this piece from shabby to chic.

Vintage Burlesque Barware is a fun touch to any bar #dlrhein

These racy vintage glasses deserve center stage in this dashing dining room so we took them out of the kitchen cabinets and put them in pole position!

Vintage Decanters are the perfect juxtoposition in a modern dining room #dlrhein

We are constantly hunting and gathering vintage bar ware.  These beauties are reminiscent of my grandparent’s home, always labeled with vintage markers.  Brass bamboo handles on marble are the perfect tray to display spirits.

Fresh Flowers and a vintage tray are the best accessories for a dining table #dlrhein

An over sized glass canister is a simple vessel to make peonies dance on top of a hand carved metal tray.  The fuschia flowers pull out the warm tones in a kaleidoscope oil painting of a young gypsy princess.  Oh the stories she will tell…
