“My many years of living have not made the actions of teenage boys any less enigmatic.” – Avery Williams, The Alchemy of Forever

A Boys Room with a Big Makeover | @D.L. Rhein

Remember the fabulous Bollywood Bungalow we did last year? Our clients recently moved into a larger home and wanted to give their teenage sons fresh, updated bedrooms that said goodbye little boys, hello young men.  The rooms had nothing in them but walls and windows when we began working in the space. A highly creative family, with ideas and projects constantly flowing, we wanted to create soothing bedrooms that were relaxing and kept these young collectors items orderly.

Monogram Pillows always add a nice touch | @D.L. Rhein

A new bed fit for a king!  Navy fabric gets tailored definition with a modern design and silver nail heads.   Black and white linen duvet and shams embroidered with his initials from Monogrammit, an LA staple for personalized linens and accessories.  A royal blue silk shade is the perfect accent for these lucite lamps.

A boys bedroom with a little extra storage | @D.L. Rhein

One challenge in this room was that there was no closet!  A custom built bench is covered with a stenciled zebra hide, stained in a mahogany, and modern pulls from Restoration Hardware.  The furniture anchors the room and functions as a place for him to store some of his clothes.  A Greek key rug adds some texture and pops the blues in the bed and lamp shades.

To give the boys rooms that reflect their individual styles and personalities, we went with a grey and brown pallet for the older brother.  Vintage bamboo side tables make eclectic and one of a kind end tables.  A cable knit throw brings out the dark grey headboard as it accents the light grey embroidered bedding.  A faux croc tray painted in high gloss lacquer allows for an impromptu breakfast in bed.

There is nothing new paint and hardware can’t make magnificent!  Lacquered in grey, and chrome plated original brass hardware, this vintage piece is given new life and turned modern with a lucite chair from CB2.  It is one of our favorite, inexpensive pieces to place.  (They make great dining chairs too. )  The patchwork hide rug blends the scheme of the room together effortlessly.  Stay tuned for the guest room in this newly appointed home.
