“I’m going back someday, come what may, to Blue Bayou. Where the folks are fine and the world is mine, on Blue Bayou…” – Linda Ronstadt

Teen bedroom remodel | Brentwood | D.L. Rhein #turquoise #teal #bedroom #dlrhein

When the only girl, the youngest of four turned 14, she yearned for a grown up room.  With her oldest brother off to college, she was granted her wish.  We said bye bye to fraternal flair, and hello to girlish glamor with the complete remodel of this bedroom.  The transformation began by painting the walls in one of our all time favorites, Silver Spruce by Dunn Edwards.  It all started rolling from there.  A velvet upholstered bed replaced an old trundle, and was dressed up with new bedding from Kerry Cassil and some of our embroidered pillows.  A vintage painting of a young maiden holds all shades of blue used throughout the room and adds a touch of old world charm to an otherwise modern room.

Before | Vintage Nightstand

My passion is to re purpose well made vintage furniture.  We turned that brown upside down…

After | Lacquered nightstands #vintagefurniture #dlrhein

And gave these babies a dip in white lacquer!  The brass hardware was in great shape so there was no need to replace. The top piece is a hidden latch that opens when pushed in.  I love to twin things and these little hobnail milk glass lamps were just right for bedside tables.  Vintage Moire trays hold inexpensive vases with fresh cut dahlias for a splash of sunshine in this soothing seascape. Curtains were made in a teal linen fabric woven with silver metallic flecks for a bit of sparkle and shine.

A vintage metal bench for the foot of the bed doubles as an ottoman when this young lady wants to kick up her feet while reading the latest issue of Teen Vogue or check her instagram pics.  A sheepskin rug cozies up the natural woven carpeted floor.

Tufted Loveseat perfect for a bedroom #dlrhein

This fun and funky fabric of this loveseat  plays off of the blues within the room and is great when chatting the night away with girlfriends sleeping over without breaking the bank.  A 1970’s Ethan Allen side table went from avocado to snow white with a fresh coat of paint.  We even found this silk shade in sea foam to give new life to an otherwise ordinary brass floor lamp.

Custom Gold leafed ink blotter | #dlrhein

The built ins of this room were brown and masculine.  Repainted in white and jazzed up with new ring hardware from Lowe’s make it look crisp and new.  How about that ink blotter!?  We hand leafed paper in gold and put a new piece of glass down to make this desk as beautiful as it is functional.

Turquoise Croc re upholstered desk chair #dlrhein

This desk chair never knew it could be so chic!  A worn down leather swivel becomes a true statement when reupholstered in turquoise embossed croc leather and tailored with antique brass nail heads.

Contrasting color behind built in shelves #dlrhein

Last but certainly not least, we added some fun accessories including vintage chinoiserie, a stag horn coral, and new frames to highlight friends and family. Marble wrapped books and agate bookends elevate the space without losing it’s youthful appeal.  The look on the young lady’s face when she entered her new room was priceless and left her speechless.  Cue the  Linda Ronstadt, “I don’t know much, but I know I love you.”
