“We didn’t have a TV in the living room and all my friends thought we were kind of weird. When they’d come over, my mom wanted to talk to them about current events.”
– Eliza Dushku

Perfect Living Room | All custom and vintage by D.L. Rhein #dlrhein

Remember that room in your house growing up that was “off limits” or “for company only?”  This laid back family wanted anything but that.  With a comfy family room already set up for Movie Night and Sports Games, the lady of the house wanted a room where she could entertain her friends without feeling stuffy.  With nothing but a console in this room, we couldn’t wait to start hunting for and creating its contents.  A sofa and chairs were created in Belgian Linen, custom pewter silk drapes hang from a modern valance.  Clean lined yet eclectic, the perfect room was becoming perfectly layered.

Original Art by Homeowner | Polished Nickel Barcart #dlrhein

A charcoal drawing (courtesy of the very talented and equally humble lady of the house) is casual yet chic when leaned atop this polished nickel bar cart.

Before | 1970's stool needing some serious TLC

BEFORE | Crackled seat green stool

Reinvented Vintage Stool | Metallic woven, grey lacquer, brass nailheads #dlrhein

Peach fabric and kelly green wood?  It’s 2014, not 1976!  Shades of silver and charcoal woven together pop off the contrast of antiqued brass nailheads.  A dip in grey lacquer turns these impromptu seats sleek and modern.

Vintage Brass Bamboo Nesting Tables become an unexpected coffee table #dlrhein

I love when my clients want to go outside of the box.  A set of two brass bamboo nesting tables (found at different times!)  become a stunning, yet unconventional coffee table.

Shumacher Tortola Marine Pillows | Antique Persian Rug #dlrhein #schumacher

We played with many different rugs in this room before deciding on this antique Persian beauty.  The bold base is a dreamy contrast to an otherwise muted palatte.  Basket weave pillows in Schumacher’s Tortola Marine add pattern to white linen furniture.

Monochromatic objects against grey walls #dlrhein

 Monochromatic dreamin’

oxidized bottles from the 1800's in the perfect irridescent hues #dlrhein

Trash has been buried in the ground since the dawn of man.  Over time, these 1800’s bottles oxidized into magical shades of purple and blue.

Well selected objects are the best way to dress any room #dlrhein

A petrified wood bowl is perfect for pistachios.  An amethyst geode plays off the purple in this hand inked art from an antique print shop in Paris.

Vintage Marble Lamps | Modern Asian Console #dlrhein

A pair of vintage marble lamps look modern and effortless when juxtaposed with this modern Asian cabinet.   The brass hardware (my fave!), is further accented by the brass dragon pot holding a live tree.

With fresh upholstery, charcoal art, and well appointed objects to add bursts of beauty and color, this is a room we’d love to talk love and life in over a glass of vino.
